This recipe is a great option for vegetarians or vegans, and it’s also very versatile if you use your creativity.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of soya chunks
  • 3 1/2 cups of water (or more if necessary)
  • 1 seasoning cube (vegetable, beef or chicken)
  • 1 green bell pepper (medium size) cut into big chunks
  • 1 red bell pepper (medium size) cut into big chunks
  • 1 red onion (medium or large size) cut into big chunks
  • Optional: 1 tomato (medium size) cut into big chunks or small pieces
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Dry seasoning to taste: onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, steak seasoning mix, parsley, black pepper)
  • Soy sauce to taste
  • Salt to taste to adjust the final flavor
  • Optional: Worcestershire sauce to taste for extra flavor.

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, place the water with the seasoning cube. Bring the water to boil and, after the seasoning cube is dissolved, add the soya chunks. Let it cook until the soya chunks absorbs most of the water and have a soft texture. Add more water if necessary.
  2. After the bottom of the pan is almost dry, add the olive oil (or vegetable oil), bell peppers, onion and tomato (this last ingredient is optional). Add the dry seasonings to taste. Stir everything gently and cook until the bell peppers and onion are lightly tender and cooked through.
  3. Add soy sauce to taste. Stir a little more and cook for another 3 minutes.
  4. Adjust flavor with salt as necessary.
  5. It is ready!
  6. Serve with white rice and/or a portion of salad.
