Pasta is one of the easiest dishes to make, but a few tips and tricks when preparing it can make a big difference in the final result.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (about 500g) of pasta (spaghetti or other similar type)
  • Enough water to cook the pasta
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 2 liters of cold water
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of dried or fresh basil (or 2 minced garlic cloves)

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, boil enough water to cook the pasta over high heat.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil or vegetable oil, vinegar, salt and pasta. Stir slightly, and occasionally during cooking.
  3. Wait for the water to boil again and then start counting the recommended time on the package or try a piece once in a while until it is cooked but with firm consistency (al dente).
  4. Drain the water using a strainer. Transfer the pasta back to the pot.
  5. Add cold water to stop cooking. Wait 2-3 minutes and then drain the water again.
  6. Return the pasta to the pot. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil (or vegetable oil) and butter at the bottom of the pot. Let the butter melt over low heat, and stir.
  7. Add the basil and gently stir everything again.
  8. Add tomato sauce or bolognese sauce of your choice and spread some grated cheese (parmesan, pecorino or romano) on top. …Enjoy!

Total Time / Yield:

  • Total time depends on the type of pasta or package recommendation / 3-4 servings

Notes, Tips & Tricks:

  • If you prefer the garlic and oil pasta, add garlic instead of basil. Once is ready, just add grated cheese on top and/or some pesto sauce.
