How To Cook Simple Rice
Plain white rice is a very good side dish to almost any type of main course.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of parboiled rice (or another type of rice)
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil, vegetable oil or butter
- Optional: 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- Optional: 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 4 cups of water
Directions:
- Boil 4 cups of water.
- Wash and rinse the rice until the water is almost clear.
- Drain the rice using a strainer.
- In a pan, using medium to high heat, add rice with salt and olive oil, vegetable oil or butter. Optional: add the garlic powder and onion powder.
- Stir a little.
- Add 4 cups of boiled water… and stir again.
- Let the water boil again, add the lid (not completely, leave a little gap if your lid does not have a small hole). Turn the heat down and let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes (or as package directions). Note: some types of rice like brown rice (whole-grain rice), wild rice, black rice or red rice will require more time to cook.
- Use a fork to move a portion of rice to see how is the bottom of the pan. The rice will be ready when the bottom of the pan has no water.
- Then gently fluff the rice by using a fork all around the pan.
All done and ready to serve!
Enjoy!

Notes, Tips & Tricks
- For every cup of rice, use 2 cups of water, then adjust the amount of salt.
- Instead of salt, season the rice with seasoning cubes using the flavor of your choice: beef, chicken, mushroom, herbs, etc.
- Instead of garlic powder and onion powder, sauté ½ cup chopped onion and 1 small minced garlic clove until translucent with salt and olive oil, vegetable oil or butter. Then add the rice, stir for about 30 seconds and add water. After that, follow the rest of the recipe as described above.
