Sweet Bread
This is a different bread, slightly sweet and can be served in different ways.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 30g fresh yeast or 1 package (8g) active dry yeast
- 250ml of warm milk
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 4 eggs (yolks and whites separated)
- 1 cup oil (or ½ cup butter or margarine plus ½ cup oil)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 box of raisins (about 40 to 50g)
- 600g all-purpose flour (or 4 cups plus 6 tablespoons)
- Butter or margarine for greasing cake pan
- All-purpose flour for dusting cake pan
Directions:
- Preheat the oven at 400° F (about 200°C).
- Mix sugar (2 tablespoons), yeast and warm milk. Cover the mixture and let it rest for about 10 minutes or until the yeast is well activated.
- With an electric mixer, beat the egg whites.
- Then add the egg yolks, sugar (1 cup), oil and salt. Beat well.
- Add the mixture previously made with sugar, yeast and milk. Mix everything up.
- Add the flour gradually and mix everything with an electric mixer or wooden spoon until “open” bubbles, about 5 minutes. Add the raisins and mix again.
- Grease a baking pan with butter or margarine and dust with flour. Add the batter. The batter gets a little soft. Let in a closed place for about two hours.
- Place in the oven and bake until golden brown.
Total Time / Yield:
- About 1 hour plus the 2 hours that batter rests / 24 servings

- The result of the recipe will look like a cake, but it is a bread!
